We had an interview and shooting for "Japanese Civilization", the documentary program of CCTV, China yesterday.
Mr. Sakaguchi introduced this wonderful opportunity to us.
They will broadcast 10 times of 45 minutes each serially in China.
We have tried to show as we are considering our work of dyeing and weaving at
HINAYA until now and then. We have had an interview and a shooting more this evening since yesterday.
Until Now:
My grand grand father started running Nishijin Ori decided discontinuing Gosho Ningyo(
Izukura Japanese Doll) when Japan had entered Meiji Period from Edo Period. Grand father carried it on as HINAYA, then the business made remarkable progress in my father's generation.
My father made the foundation of our business by searching for the roots of dyeing and weaving for many years.
Not only dyeing and weaving but all crafts in Japan reach China as their roots when you start searching.
The dyeing and weaving in Toh period in China about 1300 years ago represents the peak of hand weaving crafts, says my father.
I grew up hearing what he said so.
I asked him to tell that story in the interview. I thought it would be a great idea that he, himself who has researched for many years tell the story that he has found.
And Then:
I talked. As I have always talked.
-To release the saving from the past toward the future-for that-To communicate with different values and their different sense of values and study and learn humbly-
To make it simple, I talked like this.
They will edit from many interviews under a great theme, so I have no idea how long we can see us in the program.
However, it was a wonderful opportunity to re-consider about our original dyeing and weaving or
Karakumi through the eyes of "Japanese Civilization" for us.
